Eat these foods and get great skin!

Episode 2 of Lit From Within! Inner Beauty aka the Food as Medicine episode.

Hi lovelies,

While typically, we’ll try to send out these podcasts bi-monthly. We wanted to give you an extra taste of what you might expect and share a second episode early.

This episode is something I talk about all the time:

Inner Beauty aka Food As Medicine

This is a YES episode, not a NO episode. This episode is about the food you should be eating—foods that are medicine—that will help you look and feel lit from within.

It’s a super fun one. Thanks for listening!

Enjoy!

Teas

3:26 — I love a good tea. But nettle tea in particular is amazing. It’s especially beneficial for women's health. Nettle tea is great for boosting your kidney and liver function which helps your body detox.

Your skin is a roadmap

7:18 — If you’re struggling with particular difficult skincare issues. Diet sometimes be the culprit.

Whey

11:06 — This is a yes episode but whey is one ingredient many people find triggering for their skin.

Spring water

12:55 - Prioritize water intake. Dehydration is tough on the skin. But in particular, look for spring water. Find reliable sources using findaspring.org and consider installing filtration systems in your shower and kitchen sink. And check the levels of your tap water contaminants so you know.

Whole foods

19:05 — Embrace whole foods. Avoid packaged foods and opt for a diverse, uber-colorful diet.

Sweet potatoes

19:41 — I love sweet potatoes. They're rich in carotenoids and beta-carotene, converting to vitamin A, which supports skin health and addresses issues like acne, rheumatic conditions, arthritis, and asthma. Additionally, they provide essential nutrients like iron, copper, B vitamins, and folate.

Hibiscus

19:59 — Hibiscus is known for its skin-nourishing properties—a natural Botox, if you will. Pair this with topic retinol alternatives like Bakuchiol Oil and Broccoli Seed Oil, found in MoonLitFromWithin Face Oil for a radiant, youthful glow without active ingredient overload.

Buckwheat

20:31 — Add a little buckwheat hot cereal to your morning routine. Gluten-free and packed with nutrients like B vitamins, phosphorus, magnesium, copper, folate, and iron, it aids in metabolism and blood sugar regulation while promoting tissue repair and collagen production. If you want to boost collagen production more, you can also try our VibrantBoost face mist!

Walnuts

21:39 - Dress your food up with walnuts. They are a top beauty food due to their high content of healthy fats that promote shiny hair.

Raw Almonds

21:54 — I can snack on raw almonds all day. They combat dry skin and chapped lips. They’re rich in vitamin E, a skin softener, and are used in traditional Chinese medicine for their anti-inflammatory properties.

Goji Berries

23:04 — Soak and consume goji berries to combat stress, boost strength, and preserve youthfulness. Pair with a lovely reishi mushroom—also known for releasing stress—bath salt soak and you’re golden.

Bee Pollen

23:48 — One of my favorites. Bee pollen powder is packed with vitamins, enzymes, and minerals. It fights acne, supports libido and digestion, relieves stress, and balances hormones.

Spirulina

25:35 — Incorporate spirulina, a potent antioxidant (found in our RadicalSeeker Honey Mask) into your diet. Rich in vitamins C, B, D, and K, and beta-carotene aiding collagen production and benefiting those struggling with acne.

Evening Primrose Oil

28:31 — Evening primrose oil balances hormones, dissolves fat deposits, reduces cholesterol, boosts immunity, and promotes skin barrier healing.

Peppers

29:11 — I’m a big fan. Add peppers of all colors to your meals for their high vitamin A and C content—these are super beneficial for skin health.

Watermelon, red apples, and tomatoes

29:39 — Enjoy apples and watermelon for their hydrating properties, and antioxidant content due to the high lycopene.

Figs

31:25 — IA beauty superfood, for sure. Incorporate figs into your diet to help dissolve mucus, promote bowel movements, and enhance nutrient absorption. Yep, pooping is important.

Radishes

32:08 — Similar to figs, radishes are good for phlegm. They aid in removing toxins from the body and promoting skin radiance. These are in my top 6 foods for cold and flu season.

Gluten & Cheese

34:23 — While you may not have an intolerance, the inflammation they cause can show up in your skin. It’s not a no. More of a moderation thing.

Black (Forbidden) Rice

35:47 — Opt for black rice for its gluten-free nature and rich in vitamin C, iron, and calcium.

Organic Blueberries (or other organic berries)

38:17 — Love me a bluebe for their antioxidant properties.

Hemp Heart or Seeds

38:28 — Top things off with hemp hearts for their protein content and skin benefits. A super great food for glowing skin!

Flax Seeds or Flax Meal

38:40 — Incorporate flax seeds or flax meal for their hair-nourishing properties.

Cabbage

39:12 — A sleep hit. Enjoy cabbage for its high vitamin C content, promoting anti-aging, tissue healing, and detoxification.

Romaine lettuce

40:37 — Another under-the-radar one. Include romaine lettuce in your meals for its antioxidant content and blood pressure regulation.

Beets

I don’t mention this one in the epsiode but it’s good to include it here and we’ll touch on it in a future episode—so subscribe! Beets into your diet to help increase the body's nitric oxide, an important molecule that helps lower blood pressure and open up blood vessels. This is linked to your oral microbiome health, too.

Organic Bone Broth

Another one I didn’t mention here but that’s a fave for cold season. Bone broth contains nutrients that support your gut’s microbiome health, indirectly benefiting liver function and aiding in detoxification

Like I said, food is medicine! Pretty awesome right. Hope this list of top foods for great skin is helpful—glow on, beauties.
