Hi lovelies,
Welcome back to another episode of what I’m using on my Peri journey.
A big one?
Amino acids.
For me, they’re a must-have in my ‘skin strategy’, but they’ve been really helpful for Peri.
They’re the building blocks of protein, sure, but that’s just scratching the surface. These little molecules are deeply involved in skin structure, collagen production, hydration, and hormonal balance.
For the skin, I'm always looking for ingredients that truly support the skin's health, resilience, and glow, and amino acids are one of my favorite ways to do all that. They don't just create a temporary glow, they nourish and support the skin long term. Love that!
Here’s my breakdown of why you might want to explore these little wonders.
Amino Acids & Perimenopause
I got pretty heavily into Amino Acids once Perimenopause hit me (hard). I have a whole episode on perimenopause and ALL the things I’m doing. But briefly, this is why amino acids are good at this time.
Generally, They Are All Hormone Helpers
Amino acids are needed to make hormones. Period. Supporting the body with a full spectrum of aminos can help rebalance what’s fluctuating and smooth out the highs and lows. For an all in one, I love a clean amino acid blend supplement (or a collagen supplement that includes the full spectrum) that can support both your skin and overall energy. Just make sure it’s well-sourced and doesn’t have junk fillers. My favorite is BodyHeath’s PERFECT AMINO®.
Leucine for Muscle & Strength Support
As estrogen drops, muscle tone can go with it. Look for leucine to help maintain lean muscle mass and support strength.Tyrosine for Mood + Brain Function
If you feel foggy, anxious, or “off,”, Amino acids like tyrosine are precursors to serotonin and dopamine. They stabilize mood and improve focus.I’m also amazed at what Methylene Blue does for me in this respect. Kirsten puts Methylene Blue in her morning smoothie every day and attributes a lot of her ‘fog’ going away to it. Worth a try too if this is you. Get a good one like Earth Harmony’s.
Isoleucine and Valine For An Energy Boost
If fatigue is your main perimenopause symptom (hello, same), amino acids like isoleucine and valine help fuel your cells without stimulants.
Amino Acids & Skin
Of course, beyond taming Perimenopause, you know I’m obsessed with skin health. And amino acids are a must in this respect.

Glycine for Collagen Synthesis
Collagen is made of amino acids—so without them, your body literally can’t build or maintain it.Glycine, in particular, is the MVP when it comes to skin elasticity and firmness. Bioavailable glycine is what’s in VibrantBoost, so this is a great one to reach for for some collagen-boosting effects.
Serine for Hydration from Within
Certain amino acids like serine support the skin barrier and help retain moisture. Think dewy, bouncy skin.Proline Wound Healing & Texture
The key one you want here is Proline. This amino is a key player in collagen formation and skin regeneration. It helps with firmness and visible signs of aging. It’s even better when combined with peptides. If you have a lot of scarring, pair it with Sacred Salve and look at these scar care tips.
General Barrier Repair + Protection
Amino acids also act as antioxidants and anti-inflammatories. That means less redness, fewer flare-ups, and more protection from environmental damage—especially if your skin’s getting thinner or more reactive with age. Pairs perfectly with the Radical Seeker Honey Mask.
